Migraine and Headache Relief in Mississauga
When a migraine or a pounding headache hits, it can take the whole day with it. If headaches keep coming back, you may be looking for something that helps beyond pain relievers alone.
At Shoreside Wellness, our Registered Acupuncturists have helped people in Mississauga with headaches since 1995. Many people find acupuncture may help reduce how often headaches happen, how strong they feel, and the neck and shoulder tension that often comes with them.
We welcome patients from across Mississauga, Port Credit and the surrounding area, and we are open 7 days a week.
How Acupuncture May Help
Acupuncture places ultra-fine, single-use needles at specific points on the body. Research reviews suggest that, for some people, a course of acupuncture may reduce how often migraines and tension-type headaches occur.
Many people find acupuncture may help them:
-
Have fewer or milder headaches over time
-
Ease tight muscles in the neck, shoulders and jaw
-
Feel calmer and less stressed, a common headache trigger
-
Sleep more soundly
Everyone responds differently, and acupuncture is not a replacement for medical care. It can work alongside the treatment your doctor recommends.
Headaches We Commonly See
-
Migraines, with or without aura
-
Tension-type headaches
-
Headaches linked to neck and shoulder tension
-
Headaches linked to stress, poor sleep or screen time
-
Headaches around the menstrual cycle
What to Expect
Your first visit starts with a conversation about your headaches: how often they happen, how long they last, what seems to trigger them and what you have tried. Your acupuncturist then builds a treatment plan around you.
Most people start with weekly sessions for a few weeks, then space them out as things settle. Keeping a simple headache diary helps you and your acupuncturist see what is changing. Sessions are 60, 75 or 90 minutes and take place in a quiet, private room.
Headaches often come with tight neck, shoulder and jaw muscles. Alongside acupuncture, or on their own, registered massage therapy and chiropractic may also help. Our RMTs work on tight muscles in the neck, shoulders and upper back, with sessions from 30 to 120 minutes. Our chiropractor uses gentle techniques, including Activator and drop-table adjustments, to help improve how the neck and upper back move. Not sure where to start? Call us and we will help you choose.
Many extended health plans cover acupuncture, registered massage therapy and chiropractic. We provide official receipts so you can submit your claim.
When to see a doctor first: see a doctor or go to emergency right away if you have a sudden, severe headache, a headache after a head injury, or a headache with fever, a stiff neck, confusion, weakness, numbness or changes in vision or speech.
