Cupping Therapy in Mississauga

Cupping is a traditional therapy that uses gentle suction to lift and loosen the skin and muscles underneath. Many people choose it for tight backs and shoulders, stress and recovery after sport.

At Shoreside Wellness, our Registered Acupuncturists add cupping to your acupuncture session when it suits your needs, and some of our Registered Massage Therapists also include cupping in their treatments.

We welcome patients from across Mississauga, Port Credit and the surrounding area, and we are open 7 days a week.

How Cupping Works

Your practitioner places glass or silicone cups on the skin and creates a gentle suction. The cups may stay in place for a few minutes or glide over the muscles with a little oil.

Many people find cupping may help them:

  • Loosen tight muscles in the back, neck and shoulders

  • Feel less stiff after exercise or long hours at a desk

  • Relax and unwind

  • Support circulation in the treated area

Everyone responds differently, and cupping is not a replacement for medical care.

Why People Choose Cupping

  • Back, neck and shoulder tension

  • Muscle tightness from running, the gym or other sport

  • Stress and feeling “wound up”

  • As an add-on to acupuncture for ongoing aches and pains

What to Expect

Your practitioner will ask about your health and the areas you want to focus on, then explain how the cups will feel. Most people describe a pulling or squeezing sensation that is not painful. You can ask for lighter suction at any time.

Cupping often leaves round, reddish-purple marks where the cups were placed. These are normal, are not usually tender, and fade within a few days to a week. If you have an event coming up, let us know so we can plan around it.

Please tell your practitioner if you are pregnant, take blood thinners, bruise easily, or have a skin condition in the area being treated.

Cupping is part of your acupuncture or registered massage therapy session, so it is included on that session’s official receipt. Many extended health plans cover acupuncture and RMT, so check your plan for your coverage.
