Electro-Acupuncture in Mississauga

Electro-acupuncture adds a mild electrical current to traditional acupuncture. It is often used for ongoing muscle and joint pain, and for people who want a little more stimulation than needles alone.

At Shoreside Wellness, our Registered Acupuncturists add electro-acupuncture to your acupuncture session when it suits your needs.

We welcome patients from across Mississauga, Port Credit and the surrounding area, and we are open 7 days a week.

How It Works

Your acupuncturist places ultra-fine, single-use needles as in a regular session, then connects a few of them to a small device with thin wires. The device sends a gentle electrical pulse between the needles.

Most people feel a light tapping, buzzing or tingling. Your acupuncturist sets the intensity to what is comfortable and can adjust it at any time.

Why People Choose Electro-Acupuncture

Many people find electro-acupuncture may help with:

  • Ongoing back, neck and shoulder pain

  • Knee, hip and other joint pain

  • Sciatica and nerve-related pain

  • Muscle tightness and sports injuries

Everyone responds differently, and electro-acupuncture is not a replacement for medical care.

What to Expect

Your acupuncturist will ask about your pain and health history first, then decide whether electro-acupuncture is a good fit. It is part of your acupuncture session, which is 60, 75 or 90 minutes, in a quiet, private room.

Please tell your acupuncturist if you have a pacemaker or other implanted electrical device, epilepsy or a seizure disorder, or are pregnant. Electro-acupuncture may not be suitable, and your acupuncturist can use regular acupuncture instead.

Electro-acupuncture is part of an acupuncture session with a Registered Acupuncturist, so it is included on your official acupuncture receipt. Many extended health plans cover acupuncture, so check your plan for your coverage.
