Chiropractic care is focused on diagnosing, treating, and preventing mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, particularly the spine. Chiropractors utilize hands-on spinal manipulation and other alternative treatments to align the body's structure, aiming to alleviate pain, improve functionality, and support the body's natural ability to heal itself.
The core belief in chiropractic practice is that proper alignment of the body's musculoskeletal structure, particularly the spine, enables the body to heal without medication or surgery.
Chiropractors use adjustments or manipulations to realign the spine and other body parts to restore mobility, alleviate pain, and enhance overall well-being.
Chiropractic care is commonly sought for conditions like back pain, neck pain, headaches, and joint issues. It aims to improve bodily function and promote holistic health by addressing the relationship between the body's structure and its function.

What does a chiropractor do?
Chiropractors focus on diagnosing and treating neuromuscular disorders, emphasizing manual adjustment and manipulation of the spine to alleviate pain and improve overall physical function. They use hands-on techniques to adjust the spine and other parts of the body, aiming to restore proper alignment, relieve pressure on nerves, and enhance the body's natural ability to heal.
Is chiropractic care covered by OHIP?

Does chiropractic care help with back and neck pain?
Chiropractic care has shown effectiveness in relieving back and neck pain for many individuals. Through spinal manipulation and adjustments, chiropractors aim to improve spinal alignment, reduce pressure on nerves, and alleviate discomfort. This treatment approach can target specific areas causing pain, enhancing mobility, reducing inflammation, and promoting the body's natural healing processes.
Can Shoreside practitioners combine chiropractic care with acupuncture?
Shoreside Wellness has several highly trained acupuncturists on staff to support the treatment plan that our chiropractors may recommend. Combining chiropractic care with acupuncture can be very beneficial for those experiencing musculoskeletal issues or pain. Chiropractic adjustments focus on spinal alignment and nervous system function, while acupuncture involves inserting thin needles into specific points to stimulate nerves, muscles, and connective tissues. Acupuncture has been shown to reduce inflammation around joints and relax muscles, which increases the effectiveness of chiropractic care. Although acupuncture may not be required in all cases, it is very effective when combined with chiropractic in many circumstances.
What can I expect during a chiropractic session?
During a chiropractic session, expect an evaluation of health history and a physical exam, emphasizing the spine and muscles. Treatment involves manual adjustments targeting spinal alignment and joint mobility to reduce pain. Additional therapies like soft tissue work or exercises may be included. Patients may experience mild sensations or popping sounds during adjustments. The session aims to alleviate discomfort, enhance function, and usually concludes with guidance for at-home care or follow-up appointments.
Are there any side effects to chiropractic treatments?
Chiropractic treatments generally have mild, temporary side effects for some individuals, such as soreness, fatigue, or headaches. Rarely, patients might experience temporary stiffness or discomfort. Serious complications are extremely rare.
